Denise Desautels |
Bio
Born in Montréal in 1945, Denise Desautels is a poet, a writer, and a literature teacher at the "Cégep de Sorel-Tracy." She was a member of the editorial board of La Nouvelle Barre du Jour from 1985 to 1990 and was responsible, alongside Gilles Daigneault and others, for a special edition entitled Installations/Fictions, which gathered together the work of about forty writers and visual artists. She edited the 1988 volume of the same review called Femme de lettres.
Denise Desautels received the "Grand prix de poésie du Journal de Montréal 1990" for her collection Mais la menace est une belle extravagance and the "Grand prix de poésie de la Fondation Les Forges 1991" for Leçons de Venise. 1992 was a banner year for her, as she won the "Prix Estuaire/Saint-Sulpice," the "Signet d'or de Plaisir de lire," and Canada's highest literary honor, the Governor General's Award all in the same year. In 1999, she won the "Prix de poésie de Radio-Canada" for her collection Ma Sisyphe. Denise Desautels is a member of the "Union des écrivaines et des écrivains québécois " and an accomplished playwright as well as a poet.
